Throughout the 2019 MLB season, Sporting News will run short interviews with players, highlighting their favorite foods, activities and more.In this edition, SN’s Joe Rivera got two minutes with Yankees starting pitcher James Paxton. SPORTING NEWS: What’s your fondest Opening Day memory?JAMES PAXTON: Probably in Seattle, the experience that I had. Just watching Felix (Hernandez) take the mound and how excited all the fans were. I think it was my first Opening Day that Felix started, at home. He walked out from the bullpen and they were playing his song. It just gave me the chills. Everyone was going nuts, waving their yellow cards and stuff like that. It was awesome, and on Opening Day there’s so much more excitement. It was really cool.MORE: Watch ChangeUp, a new MLB live whiparound show on DAZNSN: I just got back from Canada last week, Montreal specifically. As a Canadian, what are a few activities you would tell a tourist or visitor to do in Canada?JP: Oh, man. Other than a baseball game, growing up for me in Canada, one of my favorite things to do as a kid was snowboarding. Going to Whistler Mountain was awesome. It’s a special place, great village, great skiing. That was my happy place. It was great out there.SN: Staying off the slopes now?JP: (Laughing) I haven’t been on the slopes since I was probably like 15 years old. My pitching coach said, “Hey, you don’t want to fall and break a wrist.” So that’s been put on the shelf until I retire. I can wait a little longer for that though, and that’s OK with me.So other than going to check out a baseball game, especially on Opening Day, snowboarding on Whistler would probably be my suggestion.SN: OK, I got a few quick ones. Pizza or tacos?JP: Pizza.SN: New York or Chicago style?JP: New York.SN: I know, you have to say that by default now.JP: (Laughing) Nah, I do like New York pizza. I like to fold it.SN: OK, last one: Batman or Iron Man? JP: Oof. Iron Man. SN: Why?JP: You know, following the movies, Tony Stark. I like his humor.
